Captain Blackheart buries his treasure but loses his treasure map!
But all is not lost. His trusty crew remember different bits of the map.

"I remember drawing it with 5 squares each way,'' says the Captain. 

"There was a row of three trees running due East from the square
(1,1)", Peg Leg Pete says. "You put each one of them on a different
square."

"Weren’t there four granite boulders going due South from (5,5)?"
John asks. "I think you put one of them each in a square too."

"Ah!. Now I remember!" yells the Captain. "I buried the treasure
halfway between the first rock and the most western tree!"

Where is the treasure? IN THE MIDDLE

Day 1 of camp - 9 of September

DAY 1
On the 9th of September 2019, Glenbrae school set off on a journey to that top of New Zealand to learn about the Treaty of Waitangi and a little bit about the history of the North Island. But before we got to Waitangi we had to make a pit stop at Whangarei, to use the restroom and to eat some lunch. After 10 minutes we set off once more to meet our guides for the week their names were Magnus and Chris. After we introducing our self we headed to the Treaty ground, but before we entered we were invited by some very kind Maori people who did a haka and pohiri for us. I really enjoyed the tour of the treaty grounds and the lovely performance done by the Maori people. Later that day we arrived at our camp site were we were going to spend the rest of the week at.  At the end of the day for dinner we had fish and chips.

Life in danger of extinction

Three and a half billion years ago life

emerged in the ocean. Then 425 million

years ago life made its way to land.

Life was made up of four elements

water, light, energy and air. 

Humans, animals and the environment

have changed a lot throughout the

past millions of years. Because of the

diverse landscape and climate, different

types of species evolved and are

thriving in different environments and

habitats. Many species have evolved

into allies, adversaries and enemies.

All species and life forms play a

very important role in maintaining a

healthy ecosystem. Even the bee is as

important as the tiger in the survival

of all living things, including man. If bees

or other pollinators disappear, sooner

or later life will disappear too.  

Man is creating a new world, he is

transforming the world as he plans it.

We have destroyed our forests, polluted

our water, poisoned the air and changed

our environment. We have impacted

climate and are pushing thousands of

species to extinction.

Book Report - Amulet

PWC

Throughout the past two days PWC came to our class to talk about
Income, savings, identity, theft and insurance. On the first day we
learnt how to save up for things that we need and not for what we
want, we also learnt to make right decisions on what things we buy.
On the second day we learnt how to be safe from Identity theft and what
insurance is.

It was fun having PWC at our school.

Reading With PWC and Toitoi

Toitoi

Toitoi is a book that is filled with kiwi kids stories and poems.
The maker of Toitoi is a lady named Charlotte.
The reason why she had made Toitoi is because her kids had said that
reading is boring, so she asked them a if it would be better if kids wrote
book and they said “yes”. So she opened a company  named Toitoi and
picked lots of stories that kids had wrote.

Today PWC (Price waterhouse coopers) came to introduce the new toitoi
book. PWC is a company that is located in Auckland city. They came to our
school today to show us the new Toitoi book and read a little with us.

The names of the PWC people that came are Charlotte, Venice, Courtney,
Bre and Lee First Miss Tofa split us into four groups of seven. My group and
I were in Bre’s group. We readed lots of stories. My favourite one was called
Wild Conditions. It was about a girl and her friend getting kidnaped in a snowing
mouniton by a yite.

I had an exciting time reading with PWC and can’t wait for them to come back
with a new Toitoi book to read with us.

1. Cameron and Shane collected stickers from a young age. When they were 15 they had both collected 588. They thought a good way to share their hobby was to share their stickers between themselves and two other friends. How many stickers did each of them receive?

588 + 588 = 1176

1176 ÷ 4 = 294

So all four of them get 294 sticks each.

2. Sam’s church were fundraising for a trip to Tonga. They held a Fiafia nite raising $75,000. The money was then split between five of the congregation groups. How much money did each group receive?

If 75 ÷ 5 = 15  then 75,000 ÷ 5 = 15,000

3. At a basketball game each Lakers fan were given a gift bag of Lakers gear worth $170. If there were 340 fans, how much money did the gift bags cost for the organisers?

170 ÷ 340=?

My Answer = 2

4. At Matheson Bay each person is a allowed a quota of 50 kina a day. During the summer 500 people visited the popular beach to collect kina. How many kina were taken from the sea in the summer?

50 ÷ 500=?

I know that 10 x 50= 500 so I did 500 ÷ 50 and I got my answer 10.

Treaty of Waitangi

Waitangi Treaty

The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February 1840.
It was signed so that the British settlers and the Maori people could
live together in New Zealand under a set of rules.

More than 40 chiefs had signed the treaty of Waitangi.
The copies were sent all over New Zealand and to many different chiefs.

After the Treaty of Waitangi was signed a man named William Hobson claimed sovereignty over the whole of New Zealand. Under the british law New Zealand became technically a part of the colony of New South Wales.

1# SLIP. Slip on a long sleeve shirt. The best colored fabric to use is a dark color, It will give you more protection from the sun

2# SLOP. Slop on some sunscreen. Apply 20 minutes before going outside. The best sunscreen to use is SPF 50.

3#  SLAP. Slap on a hat. Hat will protect your face from getting sunburned or maybe melanoma.

4# SEEK. Seek for some shade. Shade will provide you with lots of shade so if not wearing a hat seek for some shade.

5# SLIDE. Slide on a pear of sun glass it will help u see better on as sunny day.
