The Climb - Miley Cyrus

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it,
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I
I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, 'cause
There's always gonna be another…

Reading - Poem - Work

This is my reading work that I have completed. For this week we are writing and reading poems. My WALT is - Use personal experiences to relate to Poems

I have dreams
by Antonia Lee, Sara Fung, Christy Fung, Rachel Lam
I have no dreams in my life
And I do not concede that
I have talents
I am not a person who contributes
And I refuse to believe that
I will be useful
I tell you this:
In the future
I will not be famous
No longer can it be said that
my friends and parents will support me
It will be evident that
I am apathetic
It is foolish to presume that
I have dreams
Life is like a battlefield
Without dreams
Being a lawyer, will not be my aim
Being an accountant, will not be my goal
Being a doctor, will not be my dream
I would never say that

There is hope in my life

Reading activity - listening to the land

Tatai arorangi
What is Tatai Arorangi? - Astronomy, knowledge of celestial bodies.
Dr Pauline Harris
Astronomical knowledge is really important for us and to a lot of our people, because when you talk about astronomical knowledge, that actually infused its way through much of Māori life and traditions – the fact that, when we look at how the universe was formed within our genealogies or our whakapapa, we actually whakapapa back to these stars. So, we fundamentally, within traditional belief, believe that we came from or are related to the stars.
What is Pauline Harris saying here? - I think that Pauline Harris is saying that Astronomical knowledge is important to Maori people because in their beliefs they say that we may be related or come from stars.
What are the main words in Pauline Harris’ discussion here?
Traditional belief
Astronomical knowledge
Stars
Genealogies
Whakapapa
Fundamentally
What is astronomical knowledge? - I think that Astronomical knowledge is the study of stars and planets.

Kiwikidsnews - Massive fart in public

Today I read an article in Kiwikidsnews about a man in Vienna Australia who got fined for doing a massive fart in public. The man was fined $500 euros for loudly breaking wind. The police said that he got a large fine because he deliberately lifted his backside from the bench he was sitting on and faced it in their direction. The police also said that he could challenge the fine in the legal system.

Tech - Earthworms

How Vermiculture Works | NaturalFlow

Last week on Friday we had a science class at Tamaki College. Our class was about Earthworms. We started off by watching a video. During the video I learnt that there were about 27 different Earthworm species in the UnitedKingdom and that they could grow up to 30cm long. We also learnt that Hermaphrodite is when an Earthworm has a Male and Female organs in one body, another word I learnt was Clitellum and it is a body part of an Earthworm. The role of a Clitellum is like a womb it carries around egg’s. After we finished that we observed real Earthworms. We numbered each worm, observed what their behaviour was like and estimated how long they were. Worm 1 was very chill and was about 7cm long, Worm 2 was also very chill and was at least 9cm long and the last worm I observed was Worm 3 and it was exactly the same as the rest, very chill and was about 5cm long.

Manuka is an essential tree in New Zealand

Manuka

Manuka is a type of tree that is found throughout New Zealand and gets its name “Tea tree” from Captain Cook. Manuka also known as the Tea tree is a very essential tree in New Zealand. It will take at least 6 years to fully grow. Manuka can also stop soil erosion and can help many other trees grow.

Manuka is a native tree in New Zealand and is mostly found throughout the North, South and Stewart Islands. It is also found in different habitats including dry hill sides, wetlands and river gravels.

The bark from the Manuka tree is used to make tea nowadays and by early settlers. It is a very special tree because it is used as a source for honey and pollen. When Manuka is produced into honey it can even heal and is helpful when treating cuts, burns and even pimples when applied to skin.

Since Manuka is very important to us we need to respect it by not using it as firewood. We need to plant Manuka to help forest regeneration, because Manuka is a widespread plant. When removed from its place it may eliminate the chance of forest generation.

Overall Manuka is a very essential tree and without it we would not have Manuka products like medicine, honey, oil and more. This is not the only reason why the Manuka tree is important, it also helps other trees that grow around it and is a very big money maker.
